The Module

Training overview

The Inspection and Maintenance module covers commissioning inspections, general required inspections and post-component-replacement inspections, working systematically through each subsystem of the lift.

This module forms part of GWO Service Lift Training.

  • Relevant local regulations, technical manuals and maintenance documentation
  • Safety when working on a lift in a turbine, including work at height and hazard zones
  • Gates and fences
  • Cabin and attachment parts
  • Cabin guide systems
  • Top and bottom obstruction devices
  • Lift door lock and electrical interlock system
  • Lift operation panel
  • Suspension system
  • Drive and safety wire rope and rack
  • Traction hoist and wire rope redirection
  • Fall arrest device (FAD)
  • Supply cable

Practical training

  • Hands-on inspection of all listed components with direct equipment observation
  • Wire rope diameter and wear measurement
  • Safety brake and catch device testing
  • Assessing structural condition, wear and damage

Competencies

  • Identify risks and hazards during lift inspection and maintenance
  • Control those risks using proper equipment, procedures and PPE
  • Assess component condition against specification

Safety and risk awareness

  • Working in restricted spaces and at height
  • Moving lift hazards during inspection
