GWO Control of Hazardous Energies (CoHE) Training
Managing and controlling the risks of hazardous electrical and pressure fluid energies.
The Training

Training overview
Control of Hazardous Energies addresses the energies present in a wind turbine that carry a high risk of injury. Two modules — Electrical Safety and Pressure Fluid Safety — build the knowledge required to establish a safe working condition by isolating, testing and verifying a system before work begins.
The training is aimed at people who perform isolations and testing themselves, and at those preparing for roles such as Qualified Electrical Person or Qualified Pressure Fluids Person, where establishing a safe condition enables other people to work. Completing a simple permit to work is a core part of both modules.
The standard is clear about its boundaries. It builds on existing technical competency rather than teaching it, and is not aimed at improving technical capability or teaching advanced knowledge such as troubleshooting. The Electrical Safety module does not prepare participants to manage or control the risks of operating high voltage electrical systems.
Why this training matters
Stored and live energy is the hazard most likely to injure someone who believed a system was safe. A disciplined, repeatable isolation process — identify, isolate, verify — is what makes that assumption reliable.
What you will learn
- Take responsibility for your own and others' safety when working with hazardous energies
- Complete a simple permit to work as the person establishing the safe working condition
- Recognise the responsibilities of a Qualified Electrical Person or Qualified Pressure Fluids Person
- Establish a safe working condition and test and isolate equipment correctly
- Respond appropriately to a hazardous energy incident
Training pathways
