Rescue and Medical Specialists Training

Rescue team extracting a casualty during a technical rescue exercise

Overview

Some emergencies happen where a standard ambulance cannot reach: a collapsed structure, moving water, a confined space or a hazardous materials incident. There the casualty first has to be reached and moved, which is where first aid meets rescue.

This programme brings the two together through specialist tracks, each combining technical access and extraction with medical care, across land, air and water scenarios. Water rescue, for example, starts from the principle that entering the water is the last option, not the first.

What the programme covers

  • Technical rescue — confined space, high-angle, structural collapse and vehicle extrication
  • Water and swiftwater rescue
  • Wilderness medicine
  • Hazmat and CBRN response
  • Tactical and operational medicine
  • Search and rescue (SAR)
