Worker wearing a personal gas monitor in a process environment
Confined Space Safety | Training Programme

The gas that disables your sense of smell first.

Hydrogen sulphide is present across oil and gas, sewage, chemical and process environments. This programme covers recognising the hazard, protecting against it and responding to exposure.

The Programme

H₂S Safety Training

All Confined Space Safety
Worker wearing a personal gas monitor in a process environment

Overview

Hydrogen sulphide occurs across oil and gas, sewage, chemical and process environments, and collects in places such as sewers and sumps. Its smell cannot be relied on as a warning, which is why detectors and personal monitors matter more than anyone's sense of smell.

The programme also covers protection and response: respiratory protection and escape equipment that only work if they are fitted and sealed correctly, and what to do, from evacuation to casualty care, when someone is exposed.

What the programme covers

  • Properties of hydrogen sulphide and where it accumulates
  • Health effects across exposure concentrations
  • Why the sense of smell cannot be relied on
  • Detection, alarms and personal monitors
  • Respiratory protection and escape sets
  • Response, evacuation and casualty care after exposure
