Five Questions to Answer Before Anyone Enters a Confined Space
Most confined-space incidents are not exotic. They happen when a routine job skips one of five questions. Ask them every time, and the permit writes itself.

The basic programme for confined space workers. It covers what makes a space dangerous, the controls that must be in place before entry, and the discipline of entering and leaving under a permit.
A confined space is defined by its conditions, not its size: restricted access, no design for people to occupy it, and a hazard inside that often cannot be seen. Where possible, the first control is to avoid entry altogether.
Where entry is needed, this programme prepares workers to work within entry control: atmosphere testing and monitoring, physical isolation, the permit, and an attendant who raises the alarm without going in. Rescue technique is taught in Advanced Confined Space Entry & Rescue Training.
