Training overview
The Onshore module introduces turbine hazards, emergency response and the fall protection equipment a visitor will wear, followed by practical harness and descent exercises.
This module forms part of GWO Wind Limited Access (WLA) Training.
What this module covers
- Module introduction, safety procedures and human factors
- Turbine hazards — electrical, slippery surfaces, hydraulic fluid, dropped objects, noise, environment
- Fire awareness — contingency planning, prevention, firefighting equipment identification
- Medical emergencies — notification procedures and CPR for an unresponsive casualty
- Harness fitting
- Self-retracting lifelines
- Injury prevention and warm-up protocols
- Fall prevention attachment technique
- Vertical fall arrest systems — slider and glider operation
- Evacuation and safe descent
Practical training
- Fitting and adjusting a full-body harness
- Attaching a self-retracting lifeline correctly
- Fall prevention positioning
- Evacuation descent from a minimum height of 4.5 m using rescue devices
Competencies
- Safe PPE use during supervised visits
- Following supervisor instructions
- Appropriate emergency response behaviour
- Pre-use equipment inspection using a generic approach across product types
Safety and risk awareness
- Additional fall protection must always be used during training activities at height
- Supervision by at least two experienced GWO BST trained persons is required on site
